LEESBURG, VA—Special lighting and a special gathering will help the area celebrate "World Ovarian Cancer Day," Wednesday, May 8, according to the Town Of Leesburg.

Beginning Tuesday night, May 7, teal flood lights will illuminate the Loudoun Street wall of the town parking garage. Leesburg mayor Kelly Burk will officially kick-off the observance at 8:30 p.m. on the east side of Mervin Jackson Park. The public is encouraged to attend.

"Ovarian cancer has the lowest survival rate of all female cancers," Burk said in a release. "Most women are diagnosed once the cancer has already spread, making it more difficult to treat. We want to help raise awareness of ovarian cancer and the need for global action to tackle this disease for every woman."
