- The City of Lynchburgβs Office of Economic Development and Tourism is seeking a local artist to design a new 62-feet-long and 18-feet-tall mural for The Amtrak Kemper Street Station. The mural will transform Amtrakβs station existing wall into a public art piece that will welcome visitors to the city. The project, funded in partnership with Virginia Tourism Corporation and Services, will have a budget of $25,000. Artists and creators should submit an application by Apr. 30 at 5 p.m. to be considered. (WFXRtv.com)
- Lynchburg Grows is hosting its first plant sale and open house fundraiser on Saturday, Apr. 22 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Lynchburg Grows, a nonprofit farm founded in 2004, aims to provide fresh fruits and vegetables for those in need. The event will include self-guided tours, food trucks, and more. There will also be an opportunity for SNAP participants to purchase plants that grow food at a 50 percent discount. (WDBJ)
- Lynchburgβs sixth annual "International Festival" will return on Saturday, May 6 at Riverfront Park. The festival, slated to run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., will offer food, music, and performances that showcase the vibrant culture of the city. The city encourages those interested in attending to wear their native attire and participate in the "Parade of Nations" set to start at 10:30 a.m. The parade will travel from the Lynchburg Community Market to the Riverfront Park. - The Amherst County Sheriff's Office is reminding drivers to be attentive, alert, and aware of school buses. Amherst County Public Schools Superintendent William Wells said the division is seeing a large number of instances where drivers are not stopping for school buses when their stop signs are flashing, especially on U.S. Route 29. (Subscription: Lynchburg News and Advance)
- Multiple sheds were destroyed in a brush fire on Plum Branch Road on Apr. 11, according to the Concord Volunteer Fire Department. Firefighters said the call came in around 12:18 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters learned that the blaze had spread to several sheds. Additional crews were called to assist with the fire and began several lines of defense to extinguish the blaze. (WFXRtv.com)
- Full clean up of all the dirt and debris at Jefferson Street remains underway. According to Jerry Griffin of Lynchburg Water Resources, Lynchburg Water Resources continued its efforts to clean up the mess from a water main break on Sunday. (WSET)
