  1. Liberty University's convocation on Apr. 14 will host Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. DeSantis will address students at the university, continuing the tradition of welcoming conservative leaders. DeSantis is expected to announce a presidential bid after an upcoming Florida legislative session. (Altavista Journal)
  2. Do your kids have plans to attend one of the city's summer youth programs? Lynchburg is offering safe and productive summer activities for kids, including sports programs, camps for kids with disabilities, and a "Summer Blast Off" event showcasing available programs. Every activity or class is either free or has financial aid and scholarship options available. (WFXRtv.com)
  3. Lynchburg is holding a hazardous waste collection event on Saturday, Apr. 8. The City of Lynchburg's Public Works Department is hosting a free collection of hazardous waste and electronic recycling. The event allows residents to properly dispose of items that could harm the environment like batteries, light bulbs, pesticides, brake fluids, and more. (WFXRtv.com)
  4. There are no perceived threats to the public after shots were fired on Wednesday night. The Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) responded to a "shots fired" call on Ridge Avenue around 5:30 p.m. No injuries were reported, and LPD has several people detained. (WSET)

  • Lynchburg police released an update regarding the new headquarters. The facility will be up and running on Odd Fellows Road by February 2025. The upgraded building will provide improved working conditions, secure parking, and community space. (WSET)
  • Rachel Beanland, author of the historical fiction novel set in Virginia β€œThe House is on Fire,” held a book signing at Lynchburg Public Library's main branch yesterday. Beanland will have another book signing event in Roanoke on Apr. 13. (WDBJ)
  • St. John's day school students in Lynchburg took a "field trip" to make a change. Students have been collecting change in their classroom over the last several weeks for the Change for Change meter along Rivermont Avenue. (WSET)
