  1. Members of the University of Lynchburg softball team have come under fire after someone caught them on video appearing to give a Virginia State Police trooper the middle finger after being pulled over while en route to Maryland for a game. The college said in a statement that they are determining whether disciplinary action is necessary after speaking to one of the players; however, several players can be seen on the video provided to WSET. (WSET)
  2. Lynchburg employees of the Vivino Group, a nursing home staffing agency, have been left wondering where their paychecks are after the company appears to have ghosted its workers nationwide. Paychecks were expected more than a week ago and attempts to contact the company have gone unanswered. "I'm very aggravated because we work really hard for our money. 12-hour shifts, sometimes 14 hours, and just no paycheck. I'm just in shock, really," said Lynchburg Vivino employee Frances Dutton. (WSET)
  3. An increase in gun violence around Lynchburg has the city's police department calling on the community to cause change. “Unfortunately, we’re seeing a lot more involvement with youth, juveniles, and violent crime,” said Lynchburg Police Chief Ryan Zuidema. He also points to firearms being stolen from vehicles as a point of concern. "Folks that have firearms have a duty and a responsibility to store them safely.” (WFXRtv.com)

From my notebook:

  • Lynchburg's Public Works Department will begin reducing a portion of Main Street in the 1400 and 1500 blocks, between Washington Street and Pearl Street, down to one lane for asphalt testing. Drivers should expect minor delays through Thursday, Apr. 6, and use caution while traveling through the work zone. (WSET)
  • This is a reminder that Public Works will also begin construction n the Lynchburg Expressway Main Street Downtown ramp (Exit 1A) this week. This project is expected to last through June; though no lane closures or detours are anticipated, you'll still need to exercise caution when driving in the area. (LynchburgVA.gov)
  • The current cast members of the Emmy-nominated TV show "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" will be in town on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. as part of their improv tour. Audience participation is key to the show, so bring your suggestions and you may even be asked to join the cast onstage. (Academy Center of the Arts)
