Here are the top three stories today in Lynchburg:

  1. A Lynchburg city council member is demanding a musical being put on by two local high schools be canceled due to β€œanti-Christian” messages. Martin Misjuns, a Republican member of Lynchburg’s City Council, sent a letter to the school board objecting to the school play and demanding the resignation of the school superintendent. He says the community should not be funding disrespect toward any race, religion, or creed β€” something he believes the production of β€œThe Prom” is doing. The musical takes place in a conservative town in Indiana, where a high school girl is banned from taking her girlfriend to the prom because they’re in a same-sex relationship. (WRIC ABC 8News)
  2. A woman has been arrested on arson charges in connection to a mobile home fire, according to The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office. According to deputies, first responders were dispatched to the 200 block of Hidden Valley Road for a structure fire on Apr. 27. During the investigation, it was revealed that the fire was intentionally set, identifying Margaret Ann Williams Adams as a person of interest. Williams Adams is being held without bond at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail. (WFXRtv.com)
  3. On Saturday, the Lynchburg Fire Department (LFD) gathered with students from the Liberty University medical school to practice a new assessment device. LFD personnel and staff, and students from the Liberty University medical school got together to practice with new ultrasound assessment devices from Butterfly. The department said that these will help medical personnel with recognizing cardiac activity, collapsed lungs, and other medical conditions. (WSET)
