Here are the top three stories in Lynchburg today:
- Randolph College is rolling out new academic programs for students this fall. The new programs include the following majors: computer science, criminal justice/criminology, robotics and mechatronics engineering, film and video, marine science and integrative studies. "We know that there are degree programs that will benefit today’s students that we don’t currently offer,” said Randolph College President Sue Ott Rowlands. (Lynchburg News and Advance)
- The city of Lynchburg looks to tackle the issue of parking following improvements to Riverfront Park that would add an amphitheater, playground, and public restroom. The city reportedly has plans to expand parking between now and 2028. These plans include adding a level to the Crossroads lot at the corner of Main and Commerce streets and building a new deck in the downtown business district. The city also plans to bring in an outside management company to assist during construction. (WSET)
- An improvement project for the Main Street Downtown ramp is set to begin this week. The project, expected to last through Jun. 2023, will include safety barriers and roadway improvements within the "gore" area between Lynchburg Expressway and the Main Street Downtown ramp. No lane closures or detours are anticipated, but shoulders within the area will be closed. Drivers are encouraged to exercise caution while traveling through the work zone. (WSET)
