Two Break-Ins Tuesday in Gainesville Neighborhood

Homeowner surprises burglar in one case, while neighbor reports liquor stolen soon after incident, according to Prince William County Police.

Prince William County Police are investigating burglaries that happened on the same day at two Gainesville homes in the same neighborhood.

Officers responded to the first incident at 9:55 p.m. at a home on the 8100 block of Tenbrook Drive.

The homeowner told police she was in her bedroom when a stranger entered her home. She confronted the burglar and the person ran away.

Investigators later determined the suspect got into the house by cutting a screen on a rear door and breaking out a glass pane to unlatch the door, Prince William County Police reports show.

About 20 minutes later on the 14000 block of Sterling Point, a resident told police someone had broken a rear window and stolen a bottle of liquor sometime between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. that day.

Neither victim was able to provide a description of the intruder. The two crimes are thought to be related, police said.

Canines were used to track the intruder of the Tenbrook Drive residents, but were unsuccessful.
