UPDATE: Manassas City Public Schools are opening on a two-hour delay Wednesday.

MANASSAS, VA — Manassas City Public Schools students are having an extended weekend after the school system announced a closure on Monday because of a cyberattack.

The school system said a cybersecurity incident over the weekend prompted the closure. The district is experiencing phone outages and other connectivity issues.

The incident is under investigation, but school officials said there was no physical threat to schools.

Students were already scheduled to be off Tuesday for Veterans Day. Monday's closure will allow IT staff time to secure the school district's systems and confirm with cybersecurity experts that it is safely operating again.
