Driver Rescued From Pond In Fairfax County By Troopers
Two Virginia State Police troopers pulled a woman from her car as it sank in a retention pond off Interstate 66 in Fairfax County Sunday.

HAYMARKET, VA — Two Virginia State Police troopers pulled a woman from her car as it sank in a retention pond off Interstate 66 in Fairfax County.
The mishap happened about 9:40 p.m. Sunday when a 40-year-old woman's vehicle went off the road at exit 60 (Route 123) off I-66 eastbound, state police said in a news release.
Troopers A. King and B. Foret found the vehicle submerged, and the driver was trapped inside it. Authorities said the officers jumped into the retention pond and helped the woman get out of the vehicle through its sunroof.

The driver was taken to an area hospital to be checked by doctors.
Both troopers were also evaluated by EMS because of the cold temperatures of the water.

The crash remains under investigation, and authorities have not yet said what might have caused it.
