Teen Charged with 'Sexting' Granted One Year Probation

A Northern Virginia teen was granted one year probation after being charged with child pornography charges under Virginia's 'sexting' law.

A Northern Virginia teen charged with child pornography after exchanging sexually explicit videos with his then-girlfriend was granted one year of probation Friday.

The 17-year-old was granted one year of probation without permission to text, use social media or access the internet. The teen must complete 100 hours of community service and is prohibited from contacting the victim or her family, NBC Washington reports.

The boy’s case went viral earlier this year when prosecutors planned to take sexually explicit photos of the teen, going so far as proposing to inject the boy with chemicals to cause sexual arousal, the teen’s lawyer said. Prosecutors decided against using the search warrant photos and allowed a warrant for a second set of photos to expire, News4 reports.

The boy was charged with two felony counts of manufacturing and possessing child pornography after his then-girlfriend’s mother told police her 15-year-old daughter had been sent unsolicited “pornographic videos” after “repeatedly being told to stop,” police said. Virginia’s sexting law allows prosecutors to charge minors as felons in certain cases.
