Fatal DUI Crash In Nokesville Leads To Wanted Woodbridge Driver's Arrest

Prince William County Police have arrested a man wanted on DUI-related charges in a fatal crash.

NOKESVILLE, VA — A Woodbridge driver wanted in a fatal DUI-related Nokesville crash has been arrested, according to Prince William County Police.

In December, police had obtained arrest warrants for James Francis Byrd, 62, of Woodbridge for the Aug. 28 crash that killed a Nokesville man. A police investigation determined Byrd had a blood alcohol content above the legal limit on the day of the crash. Police did not believe speed was a factor in the crash.

Byrd was arrested on Wednesday and charged with involuntary manslaughter - DUI related and DUI.

Prince William County Police

The crash happened around 6:24 p.m. on Aug. 28 on Bristow Road near Windy Hill Drive in Nokesville. Police say a 2021 Toyota Tundra heading east on Bristow Road crossed over the center lane and into the westbound lane, striking a 2003 Lexus GX head on.

The crash impact caused the Lexus to spin off the roadway and end up in a ditch, while the Tundra remained on the roadway. Byrd, the driver of the 2021 Toyota Tundra, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The Lexus driver was taken to the hospital and died of injuries.

The Lexus driver was identified as Thomas Spencer Stark, 63, of Nokesville.
