2023 Fairfax County Election: 2 Candidates Running Clerk Of Court

The general election for Fairfax County Clerk of Court and other races will be held in Fairfax County on Tuesday. Here's what to know.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Fairfax County voters will be casting ballots in the general election for Clerk of Court. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Chris Falcon, a Democrat, and Gerarda Culipher, a Republican, are running for Fairfax County Clerk of Court in the Nov. 7 general election.

Culipher, who currently serves as deputy clerk of the court in Fairfax County, is a graduate of Tulane Law. She interned and clerked for two federal judges, returning home to the Washington, D.C., area, where she has worked in the Fairfax Circuit Court Clerk’s Office for the past decade as its chief deputy clerk and legal counsel.

Falcon, a practicing attorney who currently serves as deputy clerk for the Arlington Circuit Court Clerk’s office, is the son of immigrant parents from Peru and Ecuador. He grew up speaking Spanish and learned to speak English as his second language in kindergarten in the Fairfax County Public School system.

The two candidates are running to replace retiring Fairfax County Circuit Court Clerk John Frey, a Republican who has served as clerk of the county’s circuit court for the last 32 years.

How to Vote on Election Day

Visit your assigned polling place during voting hours to cast a ballot on Tuesday, Nov. 7. Voting hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. You can find your polling place on the Virginia Department of Elections citizen portal. Precinct lists and maps are available from the Fairfax County Office of Elections.

Like in-person early voting, an acceptable form of ID is required to vote in person on Election Day. Provisional ballots are an alternative to voters without an ID at their polling place.

Mail-in ballots can be returned by mail, in person or drop box. A ballot drop box is available until 7 p.m. Nov. 7 front of the Fairfax County Government Center 24/7 under video surveillance. Ballot drop boxes will also be provided during voting hours at early voting sites and at all polling places from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Nov. 7. Ballots may also be delivered in person to the Fairfax County Office of Elections during office hours, which are typically 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays.
