---Opponent for Jane Strauss. Rumors continue that schools advocate Louise Epstein, of McLean, will challenge Dranesville school board member Jane Strauss in the fall elections. All 12 members of the Fairfax School Board are up for election this fall. Epstein is a former president of Fairfax County Association for the Gifted, a parents group that supports programs for gifted and talented students.
--- Our Neighbor Jhoon Rhee, pioneer of Tae Kwon Do in the U.S. ,was the keynote speaker recently at the Asian American Chamber of Commerce.
"Rhee, widely recognized for introducing and popularizing taekwondo in America, came to the United States from Korea in the 1950s with just $46 to his name. Today, taekwondo schools bearing his name, including one in Alexandria, are scattered across the Washington region," The Washington Post said in a 2002 profile of Rhee.
