Overnight Lane Closures on Northbound I-495 (the Beltway) Continue This Week
Construction of the aerial bridges that will carry the Silver Line subway tracks up and over the Capital Beltway (I-495) at Route 123 resume Monday-Friday. Drivers should expect significant delays each night.

You care about this because the three right lanes of northbound I-495 will close overnights from 11pm-5am. In addition, the exit ramps from northbound I-495 to both northbound and southbound Route 123 close.
In preparation for these closings, crews will begin to shut down lanes as early as 9:30pm:
9:30 pm-10 pm. - Tapering for the closing of the right lane on I-495 North about a half mile before the Route 7 exit. The exit ramps at Route 7 will not be affected by rail project construction closings.
10:30pm. - Closing the second right lane near the Route 7 bridge, and the third lane will close prior to the Route 123 interchange. The ramps to/from Route 123 also will close at this time.
Northbound thru traffic will be allowed to use the single open lane. The three lanes will re-open north of the work area.

All lanes and exits to Route 123 will be reopened to thru traffic by 5 am. These closings will occur nightly Sundays through Fridays for the next five weeks.
Crews will be using a large horizontal crane (also known as a truss) to build the bridges over I-495. Traffic cannot travel under active bridge construction for safety reasons.
Full Closure of Eastbound Dulles International Airport Access Highway Overnights Thursday and Friday
Beginning at 10pm. Thursday and Friday, closing the eastbound lanes of the Access Road to perform utility work between the main toll plaza past Route 7, and the traffic merge over Route 123.
Airport Access Highway traffic will be directed to the eastbound Dulles Connector/Dulles Toll Road by using the existing ramp just east of the main toll plaza. Drivers will then continue east to merge with I-66.
Work will be complete by 5am. Saturday morning, March 12.
Safety Alert: Survey Crews to Work on Shoulder of Both Directions of Dulles international Airport Access Highway Next Week
Survey crews will be monitoring various locations along the entire project alignment, from just west of Haycock Road/I-66 to west of Wiehle Avenue/DIAAH next week. This will require brief, rolling shoulder closures between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday, March 7 through Friday, March 11.
HOT Lanes-related Closings
Overnight Closing of I-495 south at I-66
Monday- Thursday, at 9:30 pm., crews will close all lanes of I-495 (the Betlway) south at I-66 to place steel bridge beams over the Beltway as part of the Capital Beltway High Occupancy Toll (HOT) Lanes Project. The I-66 westbound ramp to I-495 south and the left I-66 eastbound HOV ramp to I-495 south/north will also be closed overnight with detours.
For motorists safety, traffic will be detoured from I-495 south to I-66 west, to Exit 62, Nutley Street and follow signage to I-66 east back to I-495 south. The detour may add an additional 15-20 minutes onto a trip during the peak overnight hours between 10 p.m. and midnight. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
I-495 north to Dulles Toll Road (Route 267) west
Each night, Monday-Thursday, the exit ramp from I-495 north to the Dulles Connector Road west will close overnight. Motorists will be directed to continue north on I-495 to Exit 44, Georgetown Pike (Route 193) west, follow signage to I-495 south, and take Exit 45, Dulles Toll Road west. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. This closure allows crews to install steel bridge beams.
