Class Size Reporting Bill Passes House: Proposed by Del. Kathleen Murphy

Bill would require each school board to annually report to the public the actual pupil/teacher ratios in middle school and high school.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- The Virginia House of Delegates this week approved Del. Kathleen Murphy’s House Bill 2174, which would enhance a parent's ability to make the right choices for their children by requiring each school board to annually report to the public the actual pupil/teacher ratios in middle school and high school. This reporting is already done for elementary schools.

“Each of our students learn and thrive in different environments,” Murphy said. “This reporting requirement will provide the transparency that parents want and need to make their own informed decisions regarding their child’s education. And I'm looking forward to continuing to work with the parents, administrators and teachers in my district to ensure all of our students receive a first-class education.”

Murphy’s bill now moves to the Senate for further consideration. Details on this and all of her bills are at http://lis.virginia.gov
