McLean Woman In Crosswalk Killed By Driver In Downtown DC: Police
A McLean woman was killed last Friday when a man fleeing the U.S. Secret Service in a car struck and killed her as she was in a crosswalk.

WASHINGTON, DC — A McLean woman was killed last Friday when a man fleeing the U.S. Secret Service in a car struck her as she was in a crosswalk with the walk sign flashing on 14th Street in downtown Washington, D.C., according to D.C. police.
The McLean woman, 31-year-old Shuyu Sui, was taken to an area hospital after the crash, where she died. Another woman was also hit by the same car while in the crosswalk at 14th Street and New York Ave., Northwest. She remains in the hospital in critical condition, the Metropolitan Police Department said.
A suspect in the fatal crash, 35-year-old Spiro Stafilatos of no fixed address, was arrested last Friday and charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault, according to police.

At about 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 30, the U.S. Secret Service made a traffic stop of a 2001 Buick LeSabre in the 700 block of 15th Street, Northwest. The Buick was not registered and was displaying an incorrect license plate, police said.
During the traffic stop, the Buick vehicle fled from officers by turning right on the 1400 block of New York Ave., Northwest. The Buick vehicle then entered the intersection of 14th Street and New York Ave., against a red traffic signal.

At that time, a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic was traveling southbound on 14th Street with a green traffic signal. The Chevrolet Sonic struck the left rear of the Buick LeSabre, which caused the Buick to spin and enter a crosswalk on the east side of the intersection.
Sui and another woman were walking southbound in the intersection with a walk sign and were struck by the Buick LeSabre, police said.
DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the two women to area hospitals, where Sui died.
A LinkedIn page indicates that Sui worked as a data engineer for Meta, according to FFXNow.
Stafilatos was detained on the scene by the Secret Service and was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. A judge on Saturday ordered Stafilatos held without bond, despite arguments from his defense attorney that he had not intended to hurt anyone when he drove away from the Secret Service officers, the Washington Post reported.
