Pedestrian Injured In Crash That Killed McLean Woman Remains In Coma
A man accused of crashing into two women in D.C., killing one and injuring the other, is scheduled for his next court hearing on Jan. 26.
WASHINGTON, DC — A man charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault in connection with a crash that killed a McLean woman and seriously injured another woman on Dec. 30 in Washington, D.C., is scheduled for his next hearing later this month in D.C. Superior Court.
Spiro Stafilatos, 35, fled a Secret Service traffic stop on Dec. 30 before crashing into two pedestrians in the crosswalk at 14th Street and New York Ave. NW, according to court documents. He is being held in D.C. jail without bond.
The McLean woman, 31-year-old Shuyu Sui, was taken to MedStar Washington Hospital Center, where she died, according to police.

Wang remains in a coma at the hospital, but her condition is improving, according to friends.
Safilatos’ next court hearing is scheduled for Jan. 26 in D.C. Superior Court.
Stafilatos was previously charged in a 2020 robbery in Montgomery County, Maryland. In October 2020, Stafilatos entered a Shell station in White Oak, Maryland, and hid merchandise in his sweatshirt. When an employee attempted to retrieve the stolen merchandise from Stafilatos, he brandished a knife and threatened the store employee, ABC7 reported.
Court records show Stafilatos was convicted and sentenced to three years in prison for robbing the gas station. But the court suspended the three-year sentence and ordered him to be on probation, according to NBC4, which reported that it is unclear if he was still on probation at the time of the deadly crash in D.C. on Dec. 30.
