MCLEAN, VA — A U.S. Postal Service mail carrier was robbed Wednesday morning in the Tysons area by two men, including one who said he had a gun, according to reports.

The robbery happened in the 8300 block of Greensboro Drive in Fairfax County around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

The Fairfax County Police Department said two men approached a postal carrier and demanded postal keys to blue collection boxes. The postal carrier handed over the keys.

"One of the men implied he had a weapon and demanded the victim’s postal keys. The suspects fled in a 2-door orange Honda Civic," the FCPD said about the incident.

The postal worker was not hurt, according to police.

Thirty-five postal carriers have been robbed in the D.C. area since the start of 2022, NBC4 reported.

Hunter Lenz, an inspector with the United States Postal Inspection Service, said in a statement that the men could face federal robbery charges that could lead to up to 25 years in prison, according to NBC4.

A reward of up to $50,000 is available for information in the case. Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call 877-876-2455.
