Sean Cross Receives Capital One Donation for Eagle Project

The Oakton branch of Capital One presented Sean Cross, of Herndon, with a donation of $200 for his Eagle Project.

Cross, 18, plans to make a series of improvements to the historic graveyard at the Frying Pan Meeting House.

"Sean is a frequent visitor to the graveyard, where he enjoys viewing the old graves and hiking the surrounding trails," Patrick Cross, Sean's father, wrote in an email.

During recent upgrades to the area, several unmarked African-American graves were located behind the main graveyard. Cross plans to install benches near these graveyards, replace an existing bench in the main graveyard, replace broken split rail fences and mulch the trails leading into the park area. He also plans to install an information kiosk at the trail entrance into Frying Pan Park.

Cross, who graduated from Paul VI Catholic High School this year, has been a member of Troop 160 since 2004 and is currently working to complete his Eagle Rank. He will be the first Scout with developmental disabilities to receive Eagle Rank in Troop 160.

"Sean has always been treated as a Scout first and someone who is differently-abled second by his troop members and leaders," Patrick Cross wrote.

Sean Cross will attend the George Mason Life program this fall.
