Oakton Residents Nominated for Volunteer Awards

Annual ceremony scheduled for April 14

Three Oakton volunteers received nominations from Volunteer Fairfax for their services.

Barbara McGilvray volunteered at FACETS and is nominated for the Benchmark 1000 award, and Dave and Nancy Barrett volunteered at Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts and are up for the Family Volunteer award.

Volunteer Fairfax has nominated 162 people and groups nominated for their work supporting various causes, such as mentoring children, the arts, healthcare programs, therapeutic recreation, animal rescue, homelessness and hunger.

“Volunteerism brings together a diverse range of people with varied backgrounds. The language of service is one that can be understood by all people,” Jeanne Sanders, executive director of Volunteer Fairfax, said in a statement. “The Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards provide an opportunity to recognize those that are bridging the gap between communities and societies through volunteering.

The ceremony is scheduled for April 14 at the Waterford at Springfield in Springfield.
