4 Job Fairs For Federal Workers, Refugees, Military Veterans Are Set For Early May In NoVA
Amid downsizing of the federal workforce, four job fairs for federal workers and contractors will be held in Northern VA in early May.
ALEXANDRIA, VA — Amid ongoing downsizing of the federal workforce, four job fairs for federal workers and contractors, veterans and immigrants will be held in Northern Virginia in early May.
Here's what to know:
Hiring Fair For Federal Workers, Contractors May 3
A job fair for federal workers and contractors will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 3.

The event will be held at George Washington Middle School, 1005 Mount Vernon Ave., which is within walking distance from Braddock Road Metro.
The job fair is sponsored by Congressman Don Beyer, the City of Alexandria, the City of Falls Church, Arlington County and Fairfax County.

All federal workers and interested jobseekers are invited to attend the networking and hiring fair. Workers will be able to meet with 50 hiring companies.
There is no cost to attend.

The Career and Opportunities Fair from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 5, will help immigrants and refugees meet with employers and service providers to learn and improve theiremployability and job-seeking skills. Job training, social services, and other community organizations will be present.
The fair will give you the opportunity to meet and network with representatives from programs and organizations who can assist you with building skills to find a job, improving your English knowledge, and finding community resources for yourself and your family. Employers promoting open job positions will be present. You will be able to connect with them to apply for an interview.
What to Expect?
With the help of volunteers you will learn how to network effectively with employers and community partners. Get guidance on how to promote your skills and ask the right questions to seek help. The English Empowerment Center will have workshops where an instructor will lead you through a 30 minute or 60 minute presentation to help you build a resume, learn how to find a job online or create an email account to get started.

NoVA Workforce Statistics
In Northern Virginia, about 12 percent of all residents are employed in the federal government, according to the Northern Virginia Regional Commission.
Northern Virginia Key Highlights:
- Federal Employment: March had a decrease of 3,000 from February
- Unemployment Rate up to 3.2%, the highest it has been in the past 3 years.
- Unemployed persons in March was 47,526, a monthly increase of 3,455 (7.8%) and an annual increase of 12,765 (36.7%).
While it's unclear how many Virginians have been impacted by DOGE's job cuts, around 300,000 Commonwealth residents work for federal agencies, and federal jobs also support other employment, according to a Virginia Public Media report citing the state Employment Commission. Nearly 50,000 workers live in Fairfax County alone.
