All 28 precincts have reported results to the State Board of Elections.
ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Alexandria has voted for Hillary Clinton Tuesday night, giving 75.89 percent of its vote to the Democratic presidential nominee. All 28 of the City's precincts are in, with 57,147 votes for Clinton vs. 13,240 for Trump. The City's 28th precinct results are the absentee votes.
Election officials are still waiting for statewide results in the presidential race in Virginia.
Voter turnout was running about 31.46 percent or 28,858 votes cast as of 10 a.m. Tuesday in the City of Alexandria, according to Alexandria General Registrar Anna Leider. If you add in the absentee votes so far, the City is at 53.22 percent. The precinct with the highest voter participation so far on Election Day in Alexandria is George Washington Middle School at nearly 40 percent, Leider said.

"I'm here to vote for Hillary," Alexandria resident Phyllis Lawrence said as she exited the polling place. "She certainly isn't perfect but I trust her to run the country." And if Republican Donald Trump wins? "I'll cry," Lawrence said.

"In this election, all the issues are important," said Elizabeth Poirier. She and her husband Dennis, accompanied by their children Michael and Beatrice, had wheeled their stroller inside and said they voted for Hillary Clinton.

State Sen. Adam Ebbin, a Democrat, handed out non-partisan coloring books to children who accompanied their parents to the polls and said he plans to visit three of his larger 40 precincts Tuesday.

Delegate Mark Levine, also a Democrat, greeted voters Tuesday morning at the precinct and said he planned to visit all of his precincts on Election Day.

Pat Mulloy, Alexandria Democrats Leadership Council chair, handed out donuts and coffee and students from Blessed Sacrament sold doughnuts as a fundraiser to help buy a new scoreboard.

Voter Janet Kim got in line at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday at T.C. Williams High School and waited about 40 minutes in line. "I just can't imagine anyone voting for Donald Trump," she said. "I don't want to see government torn to shreds." And if Trump wins? "That would be the darkest time for our nation."

A few Republicans came and went Tuesday morning at the precinct -- some either shaking their heads, making an "x" with their arms or stating a quick "no thank you," as Democrats tried to talk to them about their vote.
Alexandria saw at least 19,446 ballots cast ahead of Election Day, by mail and in person, Alexandria General Registrar Anna Leider said Monday morning. Mail-in ballots are up nearly 50 percent when compared to 2012 and in-person absentee voting is up by about 20 percent, she said. In all, 13,541 Alexandrians voted in-person absentee so far in this election (voters had until 7 p.m. Tuesday to deliver their mail-in absentee ballot to the elections office). She said the State Board of Elections made it easy to apply for an absentee ballot this year, online.
