Alexandria City Council Candidate Forum To Be Hosted By Civic Associations

The Potomac Yard and Taylor Run civic associations will host a candidate forum with candidates for City Council in November's election.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Candidates for City Council will join a candidate forum hosted by two civic associations in Alexandria.

The candidate forum will happen from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at the Charles Houston Recreation Center gym, 901 Wythe Street, Alexandria, VA. The forum is hosted by the Potomac Yard Civic Association and Taylor Run Citizens' Association and will be moderated by the Washington Post's Teo Armus. The event is free and open to the public.

The forum will focus on citywide issues. Residents may submit candidate questions to Adrienkay@gmail.com.

Adrien Lopez of the Potomac Yard Civic Association said as of Thursday morning, seven of nine candidates will be participating. Organizers are checking with the campaigns of Councilmember Canek Aguirre and candidate Celianna Gunderson to confirm participation.

The organizers have added a livestream option.

Alexandria City Council's six seats are elected at large and at the same time. Inthe Nov. 5, 2024 general election, voters can cast a ballot for up to six candidates. Democratic candidates who won the primary are incumbents John Taylor Chapman, Sarah Bagley, Kirk McPike and Canek Aguirre and Alexandria School Board members Abdel Elnoubi and Jacinta Greene. Butler and Roy Byrd are running as independents, and Celianna Gunderson is running as a Republican.
