UPDATE: Lock-In Lifted at Alexandria Elementary School Monday

The city sent a message out at 1:18 p.m. Monday saying no one is allowed in or out of the school. At 1:40 p.m., the lock-in was lifted.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — (UPDATE 1:48 p.m.). A "lock in" at a local school was lifted at 1:40 p.m. Monday, according to the City.

William Ramsay Elementary School in Alexandria was placed on lock-in due to police activity in the area, the city announced at 1:18 p.m. in an alert.

A lock-in takes place if a threat is identified outside the school, the city said. All school doors are locked, but classes continue as normal. No entry into or exit from the school was allowed during the lock in.
