Alexandria Fire Department Deputy Chief Brian Hricik Dies After Cancer Battle
A procession will be held along a 20-mile route for Brian Hricik, the deputy chief of medical services who died of cancer.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Service information was announced by the City of Alexandria for Brian Hricik, the medical services deputy chief at the Alexandria Fire Department, who died of cancer on Feb. 23.
Hricik is an Alexandria native who joined EMS services at the Alexandria Fire Department in 1997 after volunteering with Prince William County. Before becoming the medical services deputy chief, he served as medic, EMS training coordinator and EMS supervisor.
"We have not only lost an outstanding employee and Medical Services Deputy Chief, but a dedicated and well-respected colleague and friend," said Alexandria Fire and EMS Chief Corey Smedley in a statement. "Over the past 25 years, Brian proved himself as an outstanding leader and advocate for a high-performing EMS system. He will be sorely missed by the Department, City, and community; we send our deepest regrets to his family and friends on their loss."

Hricik is survived by his wife of 23 years, Cindy; his daughters Madison, Kaitlyn, Anna; stepmother Sandy; his father Robert; two sisters Christine and Sabrina; and two stepsisters Cherie and Amy.
A viewing is scheduled for Friday, March 10 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Rd., Fairfax, VA.

Hricik will be remembered during a final public service on Saturday, March 11 at 11 a.m. Residents and businesses are encouraged to show their support for Hricik and first responders along the 20-mile route from Alexandria Fire Station 204 (900 Second St., Alexandria, VA) to Vienna Presbyterian Church (124 Park St. NE, Vienna, VA).
A service will follow at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 11 at Vienna Presbyterian Church, 124 Park St. NE, Vienna, VA. The service will be streamed live online.
In Vienna, Mill Street and Park Street will be closed between Maple Avenue and Church Street starting at 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday for the funeral service. Church Street will also be closed between Mill Street and Park Street for short periods between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Regional mutual aid support will allow Alexandria Fire Department personnel to attend the service without disruptions to fire and EMS services or additional costs to the city.
