Alexandria Named A Best Place To Travel In 2023: Money
Alexandria was named among international destinations and neighboring DC as top places to travel by Money magazine.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria continues to receive recognition as a top travel destination as part of Money magazine's Best Places to Travel in 2023 list.
The 50 Best Places to Travel list includes international destinations like Barcelona, Spain; Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
It also mentions numerous U.S. destinations like Alexandria and neighboring Washington, DC. Other nearby destinations on the list were Harpers Ferry, West Virginia; and Cape Charles, Virginia.

Money says destinations on the list give travelers "an incredible bang for their buck."
Money's spotlight article on Alexandria notes the city is a "lux jumping-off point" for visitors to the DC region but is also a destination that stands on its own. It mentions King Street, cobblestone streets highlighted by lanterns, outdoor cafes, murals, trendy bars, art galleries and the Torpedo Factory Art Center.

Businesses and landmarks spotlighted in the feature were Silk Rose Spa, Freedom House Museum, Harambee Books & Artworks, Torpedo Factory Art Center, Red Barn Mercantile, Virginia’s Darling, BARCA Pier & Wine Bar, Vermilion, The Study at Morrison House, The People’s Drug, and Port City Brewing Co.
Visit Alexandria, a membership-based organization promoting tourism in the city, has been seeking high profile rankings by publications like Travel + Leisure and Condé Nast Traveler to promote Alexandria as a national destination. The rankings are sought to help bring visitors to the city and support city tax revenues, small businesses and the hospitality industry. At Visit Alexandria's annual meeting in October 2022, it was reported that Alexandria had record consumption tax receipts as recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic continues.
