Alexandria's Kimpton Lorien Hotel + Spa Gets New General Manager

ALEXANDRIA, VA – Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants announced this week they have named Stephane Vogel as the new general manager of Kimpton Lorien Hotel & Spa in Old Town Alexandria. The 107-room boutique hotel and spa, which opened in 2009 at 1600 King St. (see map below), was recently recognized as one of the top hotels in Washington, D.C. by Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards for 2016.

In his position as general manager, Vogel will oversee all activities at Lorien Hotel & Spa including personnel, day-to-day operations, guest relations and business development. Vogel brings more than 16 years of hospitality industry experience to the hotel’s executive team, including eight years within the Kimpton family where he was most recently general manager at the award-winning Kimpton Donovan Hotel in downtown Washington, D.C.

During his tenure with Kimpton, Vogel has worked his way up through management roles at many hotels including Kimpton Rouge Hotel, Kimpton Hotel Monaco Washington DC and Kimpton Hotel Palomar Washington DC. In 2014, Vogel was named to his first general manager role at Kimpton George Hotel on Capitol Hill, which was recognized as a 2014 Fodor’s 100 Hotel Award winner under his watch.

Under his leadership, each Kimpton hotel Vogel’s directly overseen has consistently ranked in the 90th percentile of employee satisfaction and has improved TripAdvisor rankings by at least five positions, Kimpton noted in a news release about the new position.

Prior to joining Kimpton, Vogel held various positions from rooms division and communications managers to front desk manager during his seven-year tenure with Hyatt Hotels including at the Grand Hyatt Washington in D.C. and Hyatt Arlington in Virginia. A Swiss native, Vogel graduated from Les Roches International School of Hotel Management in Bluche, Switzerland and speaks four languages, which assists in communicating with Washington’s diverse international clientele, Kimpton pointed out.

An avid hockey fan and family man, Vogel currently resides in Arlington with his wife and two children. He is looking forward to his shortened commute and is excited to embed himself into the close-knit Old Town Alexandria community.
