Athenaeum Hosts Poetry Slam Friday

SLAM Alexandria is back.

The quarterly event — formerly known as Write, Speak, Live — will be held Friday at the , open mic and slam poetry.

Slam Alexandria is hosted by poet and artist Shelly Bell, who also sits on the city’s Arts Commission.

Admission to the event is free or you can sign up for the poetry slam for $10. Spoken word poetry events begin at 8 p.m.

The evening kicks off with a 7 p.m. performance by The Noctonals, an a cappella group with a contemporary repertoire.

The next slam poetry events at the Athenaeum will be held April 19 and July 19. Both free events start at 7 p.m.
