Women's March on Washington: After Boycotting Trump Swearing-In, Beyer to Lead Group
Congressman Don Beyer to lead Northern Virginians Saturday at Women's March on Washington day after Trump's swearing-in.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Congressman Don Beyer (D-8th) of Alexandria, who with more than 65 other members of Congress is boycotted the swearing-in ceremony of Donald J. Trump Friday, will lead a group of Northern Virginians at Saturday's Women's March on Washington. "It would be the height of hypocrisy for me to pretend to be part of this inaugural celebration," Beyer said in a statement earlier this week. Fellow Northern Virginia Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-11th) announced this week that he too would not be attending the ceremony Friday.
With around 200,000 expected to attend, Saturday's Women's March on Washington could be one of the biggest demonstrations on the National Mall in years. The march is being held the day after Trump's inauguration as president at the U.S. Capitol.
In addition to Beyer, other Northern Virginia lawmakers participating in the march include Virginia Del. Mark Levine and Virginia Sen. Barbara Favola.
