Bike Parking Coming to Unit Block of King Street
One parking space will be removed to construct four bicycle racks.

Four bicycle racks that will provide parking for eight bicycles will be constructed in the unit block of King Street this spring.
Alexandria’s Traffic and Parking Board approved the plan last month, according to a report from City Manager Rashad Young. The construction will require the removal of one parking space on the south side of the block near Starbucks.
The project was developed as part of the Union Street Corridor Study. Approved by City Council in December 2012, the study calls for a series of short-term changes along Union Street to improve pedestrian and cycling experiences.

One of the more transformative recommendations of the study is to design, with input from the community, a pedestrian plaza on the south side of the unit block of King near where the bike racks will be constructed.
