Black Friday Holiday Shopping, Tree Lighting Friday in Alexandria
Annual event day after Thanksgiving marks start of holiday season in Alexandria.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Beginning early Friday, Nov. 25, after Thanksgiving, there are three big events planned in Alexandria that mark the start of the holiday season for residents and visitors.
Free parking
If you plan to dive into your holiday shopping, you'll find Alexandria’s alternative Black Friday features nearly 50 independent boutiques kicking off the holiday shopping season with one-of-a-kind deals on designer merchandise, including home décor, chic fashions, gourmet food, classic toys and gifts for dogs. The City of Alexandria is offering free parking at parking meters that day.

Extended hours
Many of Alexandria's stores will be open for extended hours Friday and the free trolley going up and down King Street will be starting at 9 a.m. Make a day of it by planning for breakfast, lunch or dinner at one of Alexandria's restaurants to fortify yourself.

Annual tree lighting
When you're done shopping you can attend the free Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Market Square from 6 to 8 p.m. You'll experience a welcome by the town crier, as well as a visit from the mayor and other city officials, Santa and holiday performances.
Small Business Saturday deals
Plan for more shopping and deals on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 26. Alexandria is the DC region’s Shop Small headquarters for Small Business Saturday. Locally owned boutiques throughout Alexandria will offer special in-store activities so shoppers can taste, create and experience as they meet the makers and small business shakers.
Kicking off Small Business Saturday and expanding this year every Saturday through Christmas Eve from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. is Random Acts of Holiday Cheer. Shoppers in Old Town can look out for an elf prize patrol, caroling and pop-up musical performances in the streets, and hands-on fun at the Mobile Art Lab.
