With a brand new Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) store nearby (a new ABC store moved into the space formerly occupied by Pier 1, at 4349 Duke St. in Alexandria) customers and employees at the 3678 King St. location in Alexandria were feeling envious, ABC noted in an announcement about the renovations at Bradlee.
The Bradlee Shopping Center ABC store is temporarily closed while it undergoes its complete renovation that will "transform the shopping experience," according to ABC.

Look for the store, which has been at the location for nearly 50 years, to reopen in early June, ABC says.
The renovation will include new interior elements such as new flooring, paint, ceiling tile, lighting and counters, according to ABC.
The remodel will not change the size of the 2,897-square-foot location, but enhancements to the store layout will offer an expanded sales area that provides the opportunity for a larger product selection, ABC noted. When the store reopens, it will carry more than 1,400 products, including premium bourbon, Scotch and tequila items and a wide selection of Virginia-made wine and spirits, according to ABC. In addition, the transformation will allow the store to host tastings and events that Virginia ABC hosts each week at locations around the state, where customers can sample various products.
“We are excited about this opportunity and are pleased to be able to provide an enjoyable and inviting atmosphere for patrons,” said Wilson Jones, Virginia ABC director of Retail Operations. “We are always seeking ways to make our extensive product selection more convenient and accessible for our shoppers.
”The King Street store is one of six Virginia ABC stores in the city of Alexandria. In fiscal year 2015, it sold more than 36,000 gallons of product and grossed nearly $3.4 million in sales.
During the closure, patrons can visit nearby Virginia ABC stores located at:
- 4349 Duke St. in Alexandria
- 2955A S. Glebe Road in Arlington
- 3556E South Jefferson St. in Bailey's Crossroads
“Alexandria residents requested that we modernize this store, and the complete overhaul of this space is proof that we are listening,” said Virginia ABC Chairman Jeffrey Painter. “I think shoppers will be pleasantly surprised with the changes and will respond positively to having an updated Virginia ABC store in their area.”
For customer convenience, a searchable list of Virginia ABC’s 358 retail outlets—including brands and quantities of spirits available at each location—can be found on the agency’s updated website (www.abc.virginia.gov). Customers may also order spirits online for delivery to the store of their choice.
