City of Alexandria Seeks Public Feedback on '72-Hour-Rule'

From The City of Alexandria: The City of Alexandria invites the public to provide feedback on City Code Section 10-4-8, also known as the “72-hour rule.” This law prohibits parking vehicles within the public right-of-way, including residential streets, for more than 72 hours at a time.

While the rule promotes parking availability for all drivers, it can pose a challenge for residents who travel or don’t drive to work. Since the rule is usually enforced when someone complains, it can also foster conflict between neighbors.

Please visit AlexEngage, the City’s online engagement forum, to provide feedback. Comments received through Friday, January 20, will be shared with the Traffic and Parking Board, and will help inform any possible changes to the rule.
