Closures To Affect Southern Section Of GW Parkway South Of Alexandria

The National Park Service is planning single-lane closures and closures of all southbound lanes during tree maintenance work.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Commuters on the George Washington Memorial Parkway south of Alexandria City will encounter busier conditions during road work in November.

The National Park Service is conducting tree maintenance along the southern section of the parkway between Alexandria city limits and its end at Mount Vernon from Nov. 10 to 21. Temporary single-lane closures will be implemented in both directions, and brief closures of one direction are possible at times.

Between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., the southbound lanes will be closed between Tulane Drive and Morningside Lane from Nov. 10 to 21. Those closures are weather permitting. Traffic will be detoured to Park Terrace.

NPS says the work includes routine trimming and clearing to improve driver sightlines and road conditions. Crews will also be assessing the health of trees in the corridor and remove any deemed hazardous.
