Federal Government Workers Offered Free Tickets To Alexandria Arts Events

The symphony orchestra is giving complimentary tickets to several performances as the government shutdown now tops over a month.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — As federal workers now face over a month of the federal government shutdown, the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra and Alexandria Film Festival are offering free tickets.

The Alexandria Symphony Orchestra announced it is offering complimentary tickets to government workers impacted by the government shutdown. The offer is good for up to two free tickets for each of the two eligible performances.

“For over eight decades, ASO has brought the power of performance to the DMV region,” said George Hanson, executive director of the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra. “Our mission centers on a strong commitment to community, celebrating how the arts connect people and ensuring that creative experiences remain accessible to everyone. Especially now, when many may need the arts most, we’re dedicated to making that access even easier.”

“AFF is proud to stand with other arts organizations in the region in supporting our friends and neighbors who have been impacted by the shutdown,” said Jill Ray, chair of the Alexandria Film Festival. “We believe the arts help build community, foster social cohesion and drive local change. It’s incredibly important the festival remains as inclusive and accessible as possible.”

The 19th annual festival will feature more than 60 films, including about half by local filmmakers. About 50 of the filmmakers will attend to discuss their films with the audiences. More information is available at the Alexandria Film Festival website.
