These High-Crash Intersections In Alexandria Considered For Safety Boosts
The city government is considering safety improvements for seven intersections identified as high-crash areas.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The City of Alexandria is considering safety improvements for what it deems high-crash intersections.
A 2022 citywide crash analysis identified the seven high-crash intersections as part of a goal to understand 10-year crash trends. The same year, the city received federal funding to do safety audits and create concept designs for improvements at the intersections from a U.S. Department of Transportation grant program.
Tackling high-crash areas is part of the city's Vision Zero initiative to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries by 2028.

The seven intersections, concentrated in the West End, are:
- King Street and Dawes Avenue
- King Street and 28th Street
- King Street and Park Center Drive
- Seminary Road and Mark Center Avenue
- Seminary Road and Kenmore Avenue/Library Lane
- South Van Dorn Street and South Pickett Street
- South Van Dorn Street and Edsall Road
The city is collecting public feedback on experiences at these intersections. The public input will help the project staff examine challenges and needs at the intersections as well as strategies to improve them. Feedback is due by April 28.
