ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria is arguably one of the best places to spend the holiday season, not just within the D.C. region.

The city had been named one of the best Christmas towns in the world by Oprah Magazine and has earned similar accolades from other publications like Travel + Leisure. It's no surprise given the city's many holiday events, trees adorned with twinkling lights along King Street in Old Town and the plentiful independent boutiques to shop for gifts.

One of the highlights is the double parade weekend on Dec. 6 with the Alexandria Scottish Christmas Walk Parade and Alexandria Holiday Boat Parade of Lights.
