MGM Partners with Clarins on 'The Spa + Salon' at National Harbor

MGM National Harbor opens Thursday offering gambling, more, including spa, more than a dozen dining choices, $30 million art collection.

With the new 24-story MGM National Harbor set to open Thursday, most visitors may think only of slot machines and poker games. But in addition to the gambling or "gaming," the resort will also offer plenty of attractions for non-gamers -- including more than a dozen restaurants, a hotel, shopping, a $30 million art collection, concerts and events and a luxury spa experience.

MGM National Harbor is scheduled to open to the public Thursday at 11 p.m., with the parking garage opening at 10:30 p.m.

Ready to pamper yourself or someone special for the holidays? MGM National Harbor has partnered with skincare brand Clarins on the resort's luxury spa. Reservations for The Spa & Salon at MGM National Harbor are now available at 301-971-6115 for treatments, beginning Friday.

The spa and salon will offer massages, facials and body treatments designed by Clarins. The two-level Spa & Salon, designed by Daroff Design, will feature 11 treatment rooms, a full service salon, a fitness center and wet areas. In addition to skincare and massage rooms, The Spa also will offer couples' suites, hydro-therapy and a Vichy room among other amenities throughout the 27,000-square-foot "oasis."

"Tucked away from the bustling energy of the resort, the spa will provide a relaxing retreat for guests looking for a full-day escape or for those popping in for a quick indulgence," said Patrick Fisher, executive director of hotel operations for MGM National Harbor, in a news release announcing the details of the new spa. "Partnering with Clarins, our guests will enjoy a truly special spa experience, with treatments unique to the region, and products that are best in class."

The space has been designed to optimize tranquility, according to MGM. Stripped of ornamentation, the design is made to allow guests to focus on replenishing their mind, body and spirit. Before and after spa treatments, guests will relax before floor-to-ceiling windows that provide sweeping vistas of the surrounding landscape. Design elements were inspired by the resort's location, with "crisp, clean lines and monolithic materials found in the region's iconic monuments; curving, graceful contours inspired by the boats and sails seen floating on the Potomac; and textures and touches of whimsy that call to mind cherry blossoms blowing in the breeze," MGM said in a description of the design.

Personalized attention will be given to each guest looking for a day of beauty in the full-service salon that will include four stylist stations, a color room, makeup room, four manicure stations and six pedicure stations. A separate men's barber lounge will feature indulgent shaves and haircuts in a well-appointed, masculine setting.

The fitness center will be equipped with 45 machines, free weights and circuit training areas. Instruction in a variety of core conditioning, flexibility, mobility and mind-body fitness techniques will be offered in a group or private movement studio. When the weather warms, guests may take in views from Potomac Plaza during outdoor fitness training classes led by trained instructors.

The Spa and Salon will be open daily 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and is now taking reservations and online bookings. You can now book on this page of the MGM National Harbor website.
