National Weather Service Issues Small Craft Advisory Tuesday for Potomac River

Winds of 18 to 33 knot are expected and the NWS warns that smaller vessels should stay off the water.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Small Craft Advisory Tuesday for the Potomac River.

The Advisory covers the river from Key Bridge to Indian Head, Md., which is just past the Mason Neck area. The Advisory remains in effect Tuesday until 6 p.m. and again Wednesday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Winds of 18 to 33 knots are expected during this time. Farther south, a Gale Warning is in effect, with winds of 34 to 47 knots expected.

A Small Craft Advisory means that boaters operating smaller vessels should avoid navigating in these conditions, according to the NWS.
