Power Restored to Nearly 1,000 Sunday in Alexandria

High winds whipped across the region; more than 1,000 were still without power Sunday night across Northern Virginia.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Power was restored Sunday to 952 homes in Alexandria, after high winds whipped through the region late Saturday night and early Sunday. As of late Sunday night, the Dominion Power outage map showed only one home in Alexandria without power.

High winds knocked down trees and power lines and blew out transformers; winds at Dulles Washington International Airport were clocked at 66 MPH late Saturday night.

The outages Sunday were scattered throughout the City, with more than 200 out in Old Town Alexandria.

Across Northern Virginia, 23,453 homes were without power Sunday. Nearly 50,000 were without power across the Commonwealth.

As temperatures begin to dip, as low as the 30s Sunday night and Monday morning, about 1,073 homes were still without power in Northern Virginia, including 100 in Arlington, 554 in Fairfax County and 203 in Falls Church. Dominion estimated that power would be restored by midnight and for Arlington, by 1 p.m. Monday.

Dominion posted a message to Twitter Sunday morning: "Crews are assessing damage & working to restore power. Report outages & downed lines to 866-366-4357 or http://dom.com ."
