New Restaurant Serving German Menu Planned for Old Town Alexandria

Husband and wife chefs plan a late spring opening of Old House, restaurant serving German fare and pastries at Cameron Street location.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- A new family-run fine-dining restaurant, Old House, serving German fare, is in the works for Cameron Street in Old Town Alexandria, according to paperwork recently filed by the owners with the City.

Husband and wife chefs Ivan and Amela Svalina are looking to renovate the first and second floors of 1064 Cameron St., at the corner of Cameron and N. Henry, seating up to 95 diners and serving up traditional German specialties including Weiner Schnitzel, bratwurst, German goulash soup, spaetzle, sauerkraut and a variety of German pastries and desserts, according to their application. Beer, wine and mixed drinks will also be served.

Ivan Svalina said Wednesday that they are aiming for a late spring 2017 opening of Old House.

Proposed hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 10-11:30 Fridays and Saturdays and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays. The owners are considering adding valet parking.

The couple owns and operates Cosmopolitan Grill (previously located on N. Kings Highway) and currently at 7770 Richmond Highway for the past 14-15 years, earning 4.1 stars on Yelp from 203 reviews. Svalina said there are no plans to close Cosmopolitan Grill.
