Pet Costume Contest To Be Fundraiser For Animal Welfare League Of Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, VA — After the cancellation of Paws in the Park in early October, the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria lost one of its key fundraisers. One part of the event will go on to support the animal shelter operator.

The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria is hosting a Howl-o-Ween Party and Pet Costume Contest with Realtor Bobby Mahoney, Corcoran McEnearney, and The Alexandrian Hotel Thursday, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at The Alexandrian Hotel, 480 King St., Alexandria.

The contest will award prizes for Spookiest, Funniest, and Most Creative costumes. A “Best in Show” winner will be chosen from the three category winners and will receive a $100 Chewy gift card. Humans are welcome to dress up with their animals, but it’s not required.

All are welcome to attend and see the costumed pets strut their stuff. Organizers say attendees should be comfortable around pets and in crowds.

Registration to enter a pet in the costume contest is $25, and pre-registration is required. Registration will not be accepted on site. Pets must be on non-retractable leashes that are 6 feet or shorter or other species appropriate equipment.
