New Fast Casual Restaurant Seeks Opening In Old Town Alexandria Space

A chain specializing in açai bowls, cold brews and smoothies plans to set up shop in Old Town Alexandria.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Old Town Alexandria's healthy fast casual options will expand as Playa Bowls looks to open.

Playa Bowls has applied for a special use permit at 1229 King Street, a 1,526-square-foot space. The franchise specializes in açai bowls, smoothies, juices, cold-pressed juices, and cold brews.

The special use application notes the restaurant would operate with takeout, and no indoor seats are planned. Proposed hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

Playa Bowls would join other Old Town businesses offering smoothie bowls such as Toastique, Zen Press Juice and South Block. Life Alive Café is also applying to open in Old Town.

Other Playa Bowls locations in Northern Virginia are in Arlington, Fairfax and Reston. A new Playa Bowls location in Leesburg is holding a grand opening Saturday.
