Report: Corcoran Gallery to Stay in DC

The museum and art school has called off the search for a possible new location, which at one time included Alexandria.

The Corcoran Gallery of Art has announced that it plans to stay put, after making overtures that it would move out of its historic Washington, DC home, even considering setting up shop in Alexandria.

The Washington Post reports that the museum’s leaders on Monday announced that they have stopped searching for possible new locations in DC and its suburbs thanks to the process that “generated an inflow of opportunities and information," according to a museum official.

There were murmurs that the museum and school were eyeing Alexandria’s waterfront as a possible location, which set the Virginia community abuzz with speculation.
