Virginia DMV Website Now Shows Estimated Wait Time For Services

Need a new driver's license, or register a new vehicle? DMV websites now tell you approximately how long you'll have to wait in line.

Getting something done at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is never an easy task. But a new feature on Virginia DMV websites can at least help you plan your trip a little better now.

Virginia DMV websites now indicate how many customers are waiting to be helped at each location, as well as give an approximate wait time depending on the type of service you need.

To access the tool, select the page for the location you wish to visit. Just go to DMVnow.com, click on Locations and enter your zip code to see which locations are closest to you. Select the location you wish to visit and click on "View estimated wait times for the [location] Customer Service center."

You will be directed to the page for that location. Scroll to the bottom and it will indicate how many customers are currently in line for each type of service, such as renewing a driver's license or taking a learner's permit test, and how many minutes the wait time is likely to be.

You can also see the alternative DMV locations closest to you if the wait time at your desired location is longer than you were hoping for.
