Woman Escapes Sexual Assault In Groveton, Alexandria Man Arrested

Fairfax County Police have charged an Alexandria man after a sexual assault attempt on a woman.

GROVETON, VA — An Alexandria man is facing charges after a sexual assault attempt in the Groveton area of Fairfax County Saturday, according to police.

The attempted sexual assault happened around 7:48 p.m. Saturday in the 7200 block of Fordson Road in Groveton. Fairfax County Police say a woman reported an unknown man entered the room, struck her in the head and attempted to sexually assault her. The victim escaped, and the suspect fled before police arrived.

Officers searched the area but did not immediately find the suspect. The Major Crimes Bureau began investigating and obtained surveillance footage of the suspect.

During the investigation, detectives in the Groveton area observed a man matching the suspect description and arrested Oscar Barrios, 46, of Alexandria. He was charged with abduction with intent to defile, attempted rape, statutory burglary, simple assault, and petit larceny. He was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and held without bond.
