• Petersburg opens $2M visitor center in historic 1854 train station after decade of planning (wtvr.com) — Petersburg has officially opened its new visitor center inside the restored 1854 train station in Old Towne, a $2 million project more than a decade in the making. City leaders expect the center to draw thousands of casino-bound visitors into downtown, boosting nearby businesses like Croaker’s Spot and helping showcase Petersburg’s history while expanding hours in the new year. 
• How Petersburg schools are combatting chronic absenteeism: 'We need students here every day' (wtvr.com) — Petersburg High School has earned a traveling trophy for leading the division in reducing chronic absenteeism, part of a broader push to get more city students in class every day. Petersburg Schools leaders say division-wide absenteeism is already down nearly 10 percentage points, thanks to an attendance task force, parent liaisons, and rewards like parties for classes with top attendance.
• Officer saves man being attacked by dogs in Colonial Heights (wric.com) — A Colonial Heights police officer stopped a violent dog attack at Dupuy Court Apartments, shooting one dog so a 38-year-old victim could escape with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The dogs’ owner, a Petersburg resident, faces multiple animal cruelty and abandonment charges, along with outstanding failure-to-appear warrants from both Colonial Heights and Petersburg.
