16-Year-Old Boy Struck, Killed In Reston: Police

Police are asking for the public's help in tracking down a sedan involved in a fatal pedestrian hit and run this weekend.

RESTON, VA -- A 16-year-old boy was struck and killed in a hit-and-run on South Lakes Drive in Reston over the weekend, police say.

Police responded to the intersection of South Lakes Drive and Castle Rock Square at around 5:40 p.m. on Saturday, and determined that the teen was trying to cross South Lakes Drive when he was hit by the vehicle, according to a report from the Fairfax County Police Department. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"There is a crosswalk at the intersection and detectives are still conducting their investigation to determine if the teen was using the crosswalk," the report states. "At this point, detectives believe the involved vehicle was a sedan, but an exact model or color is unclear. The car would have heavy front-end damage."

Police are not releasing the boy's name, saying that a new law prohibits Virginia law enforcement agencies from identifying deceased juvenile victims of a crime without parental consent.

Police ask anyone with information to call the witness phone line at 703-280-0543, or visit fairfaxcrimesolvers.org.
