Virtual Forum: 7th District Candidates Answer Voters' Questions On June 13

Fairfax County NAACP, Reston Patch and Restonstrong are hosting a virtual 7th District House of Delegates Candidate Forum on June 13.

RESTON, VA — Fairfax County NAACP, Restonstrong and Reston Patch are teaming up to host a virtual candidate forum with the four Democrats running for the open 7th District seat in the Virginia House of Delegates.

Mary Barthelson, Paul Berry, Karen Keys-Gamarra and Shyamali Hauth are competing in the Democratic Party Primary on June 20 to determine who will be on the Nov. 7 ballot. The June 13 forum, which starts at 6 p.m., will give voters a chance to meet the candidates, ask questions, and listen to each of them discuss his or her campaign platform.

The panel will be moderated by Reston Patch Editor Michael O'Connell and Bianca Moskaitis and Herb Williams-Baffoe of the Reel II Real Podcast.

The virtual forum will be presented on Zoom and Facebook Live. Attendees are asked to submit their questions to the candidates when they register.

Incumbent Del. Ken Plum, who represented the Reston area for more than four decades announced in February that he would not be seeking re-election in November. This will be the first election that voters will cast ballots in the newly drawn 7th District.

Early voting in Fairfax County got underway on May 5 and runs through June 17, which is the Saturday before the primary. More voter information is available online.
