Here are the top three stories today in Reston:

  1. Walter Alcorn, the Democratic representative for the Hunter Mill District on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, announced his intended run for re-election in 2023. Alcorn, who was first elected to the board in 2019, highlighted some of his accomplishments and thanked his supporters in his announcement speech at the Reston YMCA on Saturday. No candidate has yet come forward to challenge Alcorn in either the Democratic Party Primary or the general election. (Reston Patch)
  2. Reston-based technology company Leidos has been awarded a contract to upgrade the TSA's fleet of ProVision Advanced Imaging Technology systems used at airport security checkpoints. The upgrade will involve the implementation of artificial intelligence-based algorithms that aim to reduce false alarms and increase the efficiency of airport security screenings. The upgrade will take several months to complete and will cover more than 1,000 ProVision systems. (WTOP)
  3. A Reston resident has been chosen as the country's representative for the implementation of the U.S.-Africa Leaders’ Summit.
